Upper Hand Alternative for Cheer Gyms, Built Only for Cheer.

Upper Hand books your classes, sells your camps and runs the register. What it has no opinion about is a scored tryout, a level check or a comp deadline. Cheerleaders runs that half of a cheer season, and it does not touch your scheduling or your payments.

Short answer: Upper Hand is a sports facility and training-business platform for scheduling, camps, memberships, payments and retail, priced from $79 a month on an annual plan. Cheerleaders is a cheer-only team platform (tryout score sheets, level and stunt tracking, competition season, uniform marketplace) priced flat from $29 a month per team. They overlap on rosters and basic communication, and nowhere else. If your problem is booking classes and taking money, keep Upper Hand. If your problem is the competitive season, that is the gap Cheerleaders fills.

02 What it costs

Three flat tiers, plus processing on every payment.

Upper Hand prints its plans, which is more than most facility platforms do. Start is $79 a month and aimed at an independent coach or trainer: scheduling, registration, email marketing and the mobile app. Grow is $199 a month for a single facility and adds facility and resource management, retail and inventory, and staff and payroll tools. Scale is quote-only for franchises and multi-location operations, and adds franchise controls and a branded app.

Two footnotes on that pricing page are worth reading before you budget. The first is an asterisk on both printed prices: "Monthly cost paid annually", so $79 and $199 are the annual-commitment rates and Upper Hand does not publish a month-to-month price. The second is a double asterisk marking several headline items as optional enhancements rather than included features. WebKIT, the website builder listed under Start, is $50 a month on top. Advanced Insights, the reporting suite listed under Grow, is another $50 a month. Upper Hand AI, listed under Scale, is quoted separately. A single facility that wants the printed Grow plan plus its reporting is closer to $249 a month than $199. The payment processing rate is not printed either, and since the platform is built to run your money, that number matters. Ask for it in writing.

Upper Hand plan names, prices and footnotes confirmed on upperhand.com/pricing in July 2026. The printed $79 and $199 carry an asterisk reading "Monthly cost paid annually"; no month-to-month rate is published. Items marked as optional enhancements (WebKIT, Advanced Insights, Upper Hand AI) cost extra. The payment processing rate is quote-based and not published. Prices change, so verify before you sign.

The overlap that matters: Upper Hand and Cheerleaders are not really the same purchase. One runs the business side of a gym, the front desk, and one runs the competitive side, the mat. A gym at the $199 Grow tier still has no tryout scoring, no USASF level tracking and no comp-season board, because Upper Hand does not sell those. Adding a $29 Cheerleaders Team plan for a single competitive squad, or the $199 All-Star Gym plan for the whole roster, covers the half Upper Hand was never built for.

03 Where Upper Hand wins

We do not book classes, sell memberships or run a register. If the list below is your actual problem, Upper Hand is a better purchase than we are, and we would rather say so.

Booking and payments

Scheduling for classes and privates, camp and clinic registration, memberships, recurring billing and card-on-file. Cheerleaders takes no money, so if the front desk is the pain, this is the answer.

Retail and inventory

A point of sale for pro-shop bows, shoes and apparel, with inventory tracking. We run a resale marketplace, not a retail register, so a busy pro shop belongs here.

Multi-sport facilities

A training center that also runs baseball, basketball or volleyball lessons gets one scheduling and payment system for all of it. We only do cheer, on purpose.

04 Where Cheerleaders wins

Booking fills the class. It does not win the mat.

Tryouts

Scored tryouts that hold up

Weighted cheer tryout score sheets, judges scoring independently, totals ranked live and defensible line by line.

Levels

Know who is ready

Track tumbling and stunt progressions against cheer level requirements instead of asking three coaches.

Comps

Competition season handled

A cheer competition schedule with registration deadlines, packing lists, routine timing and results.

Budget

Uniforms back into budget

Resell outgrown sets in the cheer uniforms marketplace instead of a parent Facebook group.

05 Who should switch

Add Cheerleaders if:

  • Your competitive teams are the part the booking platform has no answer for.
  • Tryouts are scored on paper and totaled with a calculator at 9pm.
  • Nobody can tell you who has a standing back handspring without asking a coach.
  • Comp registration deadlines live in somebody's phone notes.
  • Outgrown uniforms sit in a closet instead of turning back into program money.

Stay on Upper Hand if:

  • Class scheduling, memberships and taking payments are why you bought software.
  • You run a pro shop and need a real point of sale with inventory.
  • Your facility runs camps, clinics and privates you need families to book online.
  • You train more than one sport under one roof and want one system for all of it.

To be clear about the choice: we are not asking you to move booking or payments. We are asking why placement, levels and comp season still live in a spreadsheet.

06 Running both

There is no migration to plan.

Step 1

Keep booking where it is

Classes, memberships, camps and payments stay in Upper Hand exactly as they run now. Nothing about your schedule, register or billing changes.

Step 2

Build the cheer roster once

Add the athletes on each competitive team into cheer rosters with levels, uniform sizes and contacts. That takes an afternoon, once a year.

Step 3

Run the season in one place

Tryout scoring, attendance, practice plans, skill checks and comp season live together, so nobody rebuilds a spreadsheet in October.

07 Questions coaches ask

What is the best Upper Hand alternative for cheer?

It depends which half is failing. For scheduling, memberships and payments, compare Upper Hand against another facility platform. For the competitive cheer season, Cheerleaders is the cheer-only alternative, and it is additive: keep booking where it is and move tryouts, levels and comps over.

How much does Upper Hand cost?

Upper Hand publishes three tiers: Start at $79 a month for a solo coach, Grow at $199 a month for a single facility, and Scale at contact-for-pricing for franchises and multi-location operations. Both printed prices are footnoted "Monthly cost paid annually", so they are annual-commitment rates and no month-to-month price is published. Several headline items are optional paid enhancements: WebKIT and Advanced Insights are $50 a month each. The payment processing rate is quote-based, so get it in writing.

Is Upper Hand good for cheerleading?

It is good at running a cheer gym as a business: booking tumbling classes and privates, camps and clinics, memberships, payments and retail. It lists cheer among its sports. It has no tryout scoring, no USASF level or stunt tracking, no competition-season workflow and no uniform marketplace, so competitive programs run those parts outside it.

What is the difference between Upper Hand and Cheerleaders?

Upper Hand runs the front desk: scheduling, memberships, payments, camps and retail. Cheerleaders runs the competitive season: scored tryouts, level and stunt tracking, practice plans, comp deadlines and a uniform marketplace. They overlap on rosters and basic messaging and nowhere else.

Can I use Cheerleaders alongside Upper Hand?

Yes, and that is the normal setup. Upper Hand keeps booking and money. Cheerleaders takes rosters, attendance, tryout scoring, practice plans, level tracking and comp season. Nothing about billing overlaps, so there is no migration and no double charging.

Does Upper Hand do tryouts and skill tracking?

No. Upper Hand schedules and bills for classes, and it can hold a client profile, but it does not run a scored tryout panel or track tumbling and stunt progressions against cheer levels. That is exactly the work Cheerleaders was built to do, which is why the two sit side by side rather than replace each other.
