NIL rules are set by state law, by the school and by the athletic association, and they change. This is general information, not legal advice.
- Your school policy Many schools ask athletes to report deals, and some limit deals with certain categories of products.
- School marks Using the school name, logo or uniform usually needs the school’s permission.
- Team commitments A deal cannot pull you out of practices, games or team obligations.
- Taxes NIL pay is income. Keep records and set money aside for taxes.
- Visa status International students often face limits on paid work in the US. Talk to your school’s international office first.
